Rescue

December 18th

So today we inherited two  guinea pigs. They were in need of a good home, where they would be cared for and played with daily.

They will get more than that here.

At present they are very nervous and we’ve had to take one to the vets because its been bitten by the other and is not happy at all with it.  He’s on pain relief and lots of love for now. And believe me he loves the attention and the medicine he can’t get enough of it.

December 23rd,

Time off work at last, time to chill out and spend time catching up with everything. Including the fish.

Amazed how much the baby fry are growing, there are some beauties, really are.

As you can see, the legs needed extending 10 inch, and the actual tunnel needed doors. So from Marks picture and diagram we managed to make some of our own.

Well should I say. I did all the design and measuring, Paul did all the screwing. :)

But fingers crossed it will look the part.

And even though it is dark, it lights up fab. Has a big hole at the back yet, where the tunnel doesn’t sit right on the tank, but that is because of the heater in the back and the Backi shower.

Will all look awesome in the end.

Will post temps in a few days although everything is heated.

Thanks,

Temp this morning is 18.6 that is with no doors cut in though and a big gaping hole at the back as it has to fit over the heater and backi shower.

In fact how much of a hole do you need to let out the gasses?

Still got to be good…. will keep an eye on it and get to doors this week.

More pics of the construction.

Made a few mistakes with it, but we’ll sort them next weekend, for now all works well :)

Epic fail!

Oct 7th 9:10 am

So for most who chat to me in the chat room, you know I have been really poorly this week.

No excuses…. from me.

I didn’t do my duties and clean the filter in the baby pond yesterday, resulting in it becoming blocked and not enough water going through it to be able to heat it properly.

From 23 degrees, the temp plummeted to 14. BangH BangH BangH

This is a result of the excess algae from last week and my neglect to clean it.

I lost two baby fish, all the others seem okay. But I am unsure as to what the best course of action is, to raise the temperature back up? Or to do it slowly once more. Which will do more harm than good, anyone any ideas. Or am I in the dark on this one?

What a week. Been so ill I can’t focus or do anything, I should have delegated my duties, or carried on and done it myself even if sick.

Lesson learned, it won’t happen again. :(

Umm,

Baby koi seem much more alert today. Hope the Machalite is working. Had to do my usual water change today, I can get away with every two days just about, but this would then water the medicine down, so put in a half dose to combat it.

I hope that it will work, will do a third half dose on Monday and hope that 7 full days of treatment will be suffice to eradicate the white spot.

Fingers crossed.

White Spot?

So I really do think the baby koi have white spot. Several of the black ones have tiny spots all over them and some of the orange ones too.

I treated last night with 40ml of Machalite green, for 800gal but I can’t turn my UV off(stupid electrition wired it to the filter pump) I really need to know what effect this will have on the treatment?

Also if this doesn’t clear up after a while, should I try something else? I don’t want to nuke it by any means because I don’t know how hardy baby koi are…

Any help really appreciated, this is a pretty testing time for me.
