Scripts and writing

Dawn Chapman has been creating sci fi and fantasy stories for thirty years. Until 2005 when her life and attention turned to scripts, and she started work on The Secret King, a 13 episode Sci Fi TV series, with great passion for this medium.

In 2010, Dawn returned to her first love of prose. She’s been working with coach EJ Runyon who’s encouraged her away from fast paced script writing, to revel in the world of TSK and Letháo as an epic prose space journey.

She’s had success with a web series, co-written with ‘Melvin Johnson’, produced by Nandar Entertainment, and a short film Irobe, also co-written. This year her experience of working with Producers/Directors from the US and AUS has expanded. From Drama, Sci Fi to Action, Dawn’s built a portfolio of writing, consulting and publishing.

  1. I like the passion you show for writing, truly inspiring. It’s something we do even if no one is paying us (and in a capatalistic society that is the measurement of success, unfortunately), something that can drive one to crazy lengths, to sacrifice things others wouldn’t be willing to live without. Cheers to you and happy new year!

    • Thank you so much for that. Yes, I agree it can lead you to sacrifice lots of things, balance is key. But, not always so easy when the writing takes over. 🙂

  2. Excellent portfolio! Very impressed!

How did you find yourself turning to scriptwriting out of curiosity? Did you already have a background in this medium too or did you just find yourself drawn to it one day?

I only ask as all my work currently is either short stories or novels, but I’ve read a lot of film scripts post release and there’s a certain allure to trying to write one of my works as a screenplay ☺

    • To be really honest, it was a friend who asked had I ever thought of turning my first novel into a film. He gave me the software to try, then my mum saw an advert in the local paper for a course. I won a place on it, 200 down to 15. It was awesome. The rest is history. Kinda progressed from there. 🙂
