Busy, Busy :)

Sorry I haven’t had much chance to post this week. But I’ve been rushed off my feet.

 

Lots of good news for you all to read.  🙂 I’ve just been so happy and thrilled with this week, it has been a blast. I don’t want it to end. lol

 

Monday was a fantastic day for me. I got my first ‘payment’ through for our web series ‘Best Friends’ I know it sounds crazy. Being the writer was much more exciting for me, but getting paid for it just cemented that my writing was worth something.

 

Of course I decided what I wanted to do with the cash. And so I’ve set up and am going to start working with an editor/mentor to help bring my writing to a whole new level.  I’ll keep you posted on that and chat about my progress and what is like, after the first session…  can’t wait for it.

 

I love the OWWSFF and all the people I meet there and I will continue to post and read others work, but I hope that working a little harder on my own style will make the reading easier on everyone.

Then of course when I am satisfied I aim to take it further.

 

Tues was just as interesting a day for me. I had a really nice surprise visitor come around for when I got home. We had a good old chin wag, (I never got my coffee though) but it kind of put me behind with other things and I didn’t get much chance to edit etc.

 

I was also asked to take part in a radio show (U.S based) to talk about my upcoming projects. And more than likely for everyone to laugh at my daffy UK accent.

 

I’ll keep you posted on all fronts though for sure. 🙂

 

And well today has just been a good one too. I am really positive about this year. Things are all settling into place and I just love it all at the moment.

 

I’m just off out with the other half for a celebratory ‘dinner’ ….

Tues.. already :)

Sometimes I just don’t know where the time flies.

What happened to Sunday and Monday… lol.

Well, loved the 40th party for my friend. It was really frosty going out, but I wasn’t driving so I relaxed and let hubby look after me.

Colin had a lovely birthday party, the food was good, the singing was good. And the DJ his brother was good too… 🙂

Sunday, was just a chill out day for me, I’d drank more than a bottle of wine, and something a work collegue introduced to me, called ‘desperados’ very strong, had tequila in it. yikes.

When they announced the bar was doing shots for 1.50 I steered clear. Didn’t have a hang over or anything so that made a nice change.

And then we were back in work. A frost morning and a dull start to the week. That sort of continued across into today. People don’t have the cash after the hols to buy lunch out every day. It’s to be expected, so it always drops off this time of year, still it makes the day’s drag when you don’t get to see or chat to everyone.

Got a good couple of reviews on the first two chapters of TSK – The Beginning now. 🙂 Think I am getting there, still a long way to go, but I know the more I learn about my own style and mistakes the easier the other chapters are to alter.

I am very hopeful that this latest ‘version’ will have much better thoughts from my beta readers.

I also sorted out some hours with a ‘mentor/coach’ yesterday. When I get paid at the end of the month, I can arrange some time with her to work through any other issues, but it’s all really exciting now. I am so stoked to be getting this book ready for market. I don’t care how long it takes, even if I miss the June deadline for createspace. It will be published.

In other news, Best Friends Ep 5 is being filmed in Feb, a little harder to do for the team this time around as it involves actually being in LA… mega stuff.

Can’t wait for that, they’ve secured a wonderful location to be the ‘ice cream parlour’ Do check it out on their facebook page.

Professional etiquette :)

So I wanted to post a little about the above.

I know I am a writer. I’ve had some very good successes this last year. Which I’ve been very pleased with.

But I’ve found that even these successes come with a different tag.

I’ve always been a reader. I used to get request after request to look over people’s work. Which I did, and yes, it took up a lot of my time.

In any sense time is money. This last year, I haven’t had as much time at all. With writing for Best Friends, and then having very sick fish.

So my time has been even more important to me.

I’ve had two very different experiences today. (Bar the hangover)

The first, I was contacted by a random person… I’d never had a message an email or even a chat with. Directing me to a website and his script.

I’m still a nice person, I like to help others. So, I went over for a nosey.

It was an instant put off. The website okayish, but the work, not so good. I like to think I am nice most of the time. But this guy had a price tag on his script of 1 million dollars. For a 32 page script. I couldn’t help but point out that his price tag was the very top end of the pay scale for any writer (even an established one)

He quickly retracted the 1 mill and asked for 200k.

Yikes, not any sort of way to conduct business.

So the second encounter was a slightly different shock.

Again contacted by someone I’d never met, wrote too or spoken too.

The difference was he ‘actually’ asked did I have time to talk.

That one tiny question made all the difference. : )

I do believe in some professional etiquette, I’d never dream of asking a pro writer or producer to look over my work without building a relationship first. Better to be asked to submit work, than to hound someone that you don’t know and put them off for life.

Huge thanks to everyone!!!

Episode 4 :)

So a little later than I had planned due to nanowrimo…
