AudioBook Review – Arisen Series 7-10

Slow to post these, but THIS IS THE BEST series I’ve come across so far, like really, really.

RC Bray nails this, and I totally had to buy more of the books he narrated, introducing me to loads more great writers.

“A slower pace”

Story

As far as this series goes, it’s pretty awesome. I’ve breezed through the books just wanting the next, and the next, this one did have a much slower pacing, with some flashbacks, and I think that was okay. It can’t all be so fast-paced, we as readers and listener do need a break.

Great work as usual to both writers and of course, the narrator, he’s been totally awesome throughout the whole series.

Book 8 –

“It’s back!”

Story

This defo picks up the pace once more, nothing that the operators go through here is easy. And it’s action packed once again.

From the JFK fighting for its life against the Russian cruiser, to which the injured command lets the ship down in the biggest way, once again not believing what he’s told about the Russian’s and their own operators, thank goodness for Homer, what a guy. And some just totally on the edge scenes.

I really, also enjoyed the UK scenes in here, I think and believe this is exactly how London might fall in the ZA. It’s just so almost true you really can believe it, and of course, One Troop really do fight tooth and nail, almost as much as the operators.

Excellent listen and sped through these like a demon. 🙂 (where is the next books 11 and 12) haha

Book 8.5 –

“Excellent side story!”

I was a little unsure of this one because of how it sat in the series, but I was pleasantly surprised, it wasn’t a bad trip backwards at all.

This really set up and let me understand how and what happened at the start of the ZA and some of the reasons to why. I can totally see the next book getting really complicated and scary and all sides coming together for a big fight.

I was so excited to get to the end of this, and move forwards. Thank you for the huge amount of weekly entertainment this has totally made my start to love zombies. Not sure if that’s a good thing, as I started watching TWD as well. haha.

Fab job from all parties as well. 5 stars for this one.

Book 9 –

Cataclysm: Arisen, Book 9 | [Michael Stephen Fuchs]

“Such bad luck for them, sigh”

Story

I really have had a blast with these, but there are some really hit and miss sections of just pure bad luck. These guys are so highly trained, yet they do make the really craziest mistakes. I can forgive it because they’re Zombie and fantasy books, with a whole lot of real life, character situations and days without sleep. But they’re still pretty daft mistakes, that I really do hope highly trained people wouldn’t make.

However, this is one of the most entertaining series I have had the pleasure of listening to, and the action and character development, even if sometimes things seem odd, is brilliantly done. Yes, I am now a big fan, and I don’t mind admitting it. I just went to look up the writers and narrator on facebook….

Thanks for being so awesome. (PS I saw book 11 is on the cards for audio, squee)

The Flood: Arisen, Book 10 | [Michael Stephen Fuchs]

“Fab, just don’t want it to end!”

With everything coming to a head, things are just so tense, all the time. These guys haven’t had a decent break, and I’m glad that at least there are somethings that keep on being the usual!

I was literally on the edge of my seat while driving and listening to this. There was such desperation, such heartfelt emotions and inner soul searching from everyone in this book. I don’t want it to go wrong, I love these characters, all of them, I’ve lived with them for the last few weeks, day in day out, 5 hours a day! I really want the next audiobooks, but I know they’re not done yet. I will have to wait and I think that will kill me. haha. Best audiobook hangover EVER. Thank you guys.

Book 0.5 –

“Great Intro listen to at anytime.”

As I said above, this is a great addition, and you can really listen to it at anytime. I got through all the 12 books and then had the worst hangover, so this was a nice addition to the series. The two Seals with the guys in here, are fab characters, both fought till their last breath, as said in the main series, but going through it with them is hard on the emotions.

Great job to both writer and narrator. Ray is now one of my fav’s and I’m already on another series he narrated 🙂

AudioBook Review – Arisen Omnibus Edition

First Ever Zombie listen, and wow what a series – I’m now actually on book 7 at the moment, haha, in-between other reviews of course. 🙂

“First Zombie listen!”

Story

I have to admit, I’m a sci fi girl, but I picked this up because I’d some credits to spare and liked that it’s 3 books in one. Bargain.

I liked the read up and being a Brit thought yey, someone who might actually get us a little. I did think that R.C struggled just a little in the first book with the brit accents, but by the time I’d got through to the third, I think he’d really settled into it and I began to enjoy the whole performance.

When the end of the world hits, there’s Britain and by sheer luck managed to batten down the hatches and stay alive….. that is until one of the zombies digs its way out the channel tunnel from France. (and what an ordeal for those still in the tunnel)

I have to say the characters also started out a bit flat. 2D kinda military people who just seemed to get on and do their job no matter what was thrown at them, but by the end of book 3 I’d started to really connect with them all. The military bravado is just that, a huge attempt to just get on with the really crap situations these guys just seemed to keep finding themselves in.

So, top and bottom of it. I enjoyed spending the 15 hours with these die hard characters, so much so I went and bought the rest of the series. And am already on book 5 🙂

Thanks to both narrator and writers, who together made a really good team, and I’m looing forward to seeing how this all plays out.

AudioBook Review – We are Legion. We are Bob

I was so excited that this turned to an audiobook! this is one of the greatest projects I’ve had the joy of being part of. Even be it a tiny part of.

Huge congrats to Dennis for this amazing world. And I hope lots of others will join me and Bob on this journey!

“Exciting new sci fi!”

Story

Full disclosure. I had the wonderful opportunity to read some of this in one of my author crit groups, but I was super excited to then learn of it as an audiobook! Especially read by Ray Porter, who I enjoyed for some of his other works. So I had to go and buy this. 🙂

Dennis’s Bobiverse was a little strange at first. But, you’re soon taken in by the wonderful humour of Bob and the weird circumstances he’s got himself into and has to keep himself sane from…. I admit there’s a lot going on, and there are some ‘Bob’s I like more than others. But that’s to be expected. They are all so different…. and of course as a trecky fan I love Ryker. And Homer 🙂

This really was a joy to be a part of and an excellent listen. I think my only gripe was the story seemed to have really gotten going, and then it ended. Of course, it’s that vast and large a world, as in the whole universe, that there is much more scope for Bob and his replicants, and the last few survivors from Earth.

An excellent story for any sci fi lovers, this is something very different, full of science, and things I don’t understand, but loved learning about.

Thank you Dennis and Ray… and hurry up with Bob 2! I can’t wait.

AudioBook Review – 36 Hours

Great shorter listen this week, by a narrator who I’ve had the pleasure of listening to before. Kevin’s voice is really deep, gritty but easy on the ears 🙂

  • 36 Hours: The Blackout Series, Book 1 | [Bobby Akart]

    “Thought provoking”

It was nice to listen to Kevin again, and this premise interested me a lot due to the science of it. I must admit there was a lot to take in at first. But as each first chapter introduced us to the characters and to what was coming, I got more and more sucked into the story.

Preppers do have the mentality attatched to them of being a bit on the wacky side, but I think in all honesty having some sort of stock about you really isn’t. Especially with the way the world seems to be heading. Maddison was a fab Mom and did everything she could to help calm her daughter down and protect her from even her own thoughts at first.

Alex totally different gal, you think she’s this quiet kid who just wants to do what kids do, but she rescues her mom from a mugger with a golf club! There were some really tough moments in this story. And the more we got to know Maddy and Alex, and her husband Colton. The more we were routing for them being re-united.

I think my only grip is that it’s so short. I know there’s a sequel, but I feel it’s actually really part of this story. It stopped at a good place after they met up, but the only thing that led me to want more was the bonus chapter/teaser.

Still excellent listen, Kevin has a deep, but soothing tone I really like. He puts great twists with his male and female characters and I’m happy to listen to anything he narrates because of that. Next one please 🙂

Back with the crew on the Lowis! If you love sci fi character driven stories, this is the one for you….

Review follows.

“Excellent Listen”

I was so excited to get back to Ish and the crew. What a fantastic series this has been.

However, this was a great listen. There’s so much going on here, with a new crew member coming aboard and the uncertainty of Ish losing his place on the ship. This novel defo has a much sadder undertone, and Jeffery did a fab job as usual, with all the characters and especially the woman, it amazes me how much each person really has their own twist and voice. I am in awe of what narrators do. But the amazing writing, and drinking and food also still makes me want to drink more coffee and find out how to make spicy beefalow 🙂

I really did enjoy the full journey though, and the fact that Ish and Bev get together is just perfect, I wondered of the three who he actually might end up with if the opportunity arose. At most points through this book, I kept thinking, come on, I’m routing for him… the ship and almost dying, wow, really great writing and really awesome deductive work from Ish and the crew to get to the bottom of that problem. A mystery I was happy to follow, as I was with the problems they were having with the new crew member CC.

I was looking forward to the next one, but now I’m not so sure. And I have to say, I think the only thing with it that’s bothered me is the preview chapters and then subsequent wanting to skip the first few in the next new book. I also got a taster of the next book, (book 4) before I cut the off switch. And I’m sad if there isn’t anything really written of his academy days, I mean to skip 4 years of his life… seems a huge switch. Maybe it will work or not, but sigh. I really wanted to see what happened there too.

I am very much still looking forward to hearing the next book and following on with Ish and maybe Pip and Bev…. guess we’ll see when I get there.

Thanks for the great entertainment this week already pre ordered the next 🙂
