Hey there,

Everyone seems much happier this morning. :) Tested all water parameters and all is good too, no ammonia spike. Will still gently feed for now.

Hope all the other fish have settled in good…

————————————————-
On another note.

So the new koi seem even more settled. Fed them and they both rushed over, which was good. Think the male has a scale missing by his gills and a bump to his tail… :( Noticed two still flicking today. I won’t leave it long before I get the guy with the microscope down, after all. No good chucking in treatments when I have no idea what it is. I just hate seeing them bounce off the bottom. Does me head in, besides if there is a bug, I don’t want it getting grips on the new fish either…

:(

Update soon.

Morning,

Well both still in the pond. Although the female seems more settled than the male. I gave them a bit of food and it took a while for him to come over, but I think they both ate.

They’re still a little too attached to the inlet pipe. Although never noticed any head bobbing this morning. So that is good. Might just leave the waterfall off and the heater on for a couple of days and see how they cope when I can watch them again.

Just going back out to clean it, dirty after the weekend and you can’t clean a nexus so well when there isn’t enough water in the pond.

Fingers crossed today while in work… and I’ll watch them again later when I get in. :)

——————————————–

So good so far… both ate this afternoon and seem much more settled.

Think I def had a parasite in there though, fingers crossed the blighter is gone… If it isn’t I can only hope it isn’t flukes again… Trich or Flukes, all I ever get. :(

Mother ghosty has a bright red side, some sores I think. Will keep a very close eye on them for a few days. Make sure the nasty has gone… and the others settle better.

Planning at the moment for the big up-route… at the end of this month and beginning of next. Will give us time to organise the vats and to be able to have anything I might need to hand. zeolite, nitrite remover anything… dechlorinator in case I have to pump out and refill with fresh from the mains…

You’d think there was an easy way of finding a leak… nope.

Speak soon.

————————————————-

There will be lots to use the saw for…. like boxing in vats, he’s come up with a whole new plan now.

Koi female still gasping now and then for extra air, but I think there is a heck of a lot of frisky business going on in there, the males are really chasing my three mature gilrs. One now has marks all down her side. Will keep an eye on them for a few days, as the treatment fades off completly and to see if there is no parasites still in there. No others gasping for air, but they do swim up stream in the inlet now and then. Think they just like the current. :)

Might take a while, but all will work out, I’m sure. Everything crossed :)

Ok,  so here are a few pics of our new additions.

Got home in just over 4 and a half hours which was really good going, didn’t hit any traffic. The Koi were calm and seemed only slightly stressed, the female more than the male.

So we introduced them slowly, but the female freaked out right away and tried to escape the pond. The male settled in nosed all the other fish and then had a freak out for about 40 mins. He kept coming up for extra air…

Now that he has stopped doing it, and is more interested in chasing the pregnant female… she has started to bob up to the surface.

I’m sure they will settle in totally soon… just nerve racking watching them stress out.

he male before we brought him home. And some of the male and female in our bowl. Not big enough though as the male couldn’t stretch out properly.

Will try and get pics when they settle down and are feeding with the others.

Just letting you know, treatments been completed as advised First dose went in on Tuesday, second today. So with a bit of luck the blighters will have gone. :)

Pond temp is steady 10 degrees.

Had some bad news though, as the bunker flooded the uv has blown totally. We also have a crack in the QT pond. Bummer, needs fiberglassing over it. So top priority to get these jobs done in the next month. Going to have to move the UV we thing outside the bunker so it won’t happen again. Not a good idea to have lecky so close to water…. Doesnt mix.

Will let you know progress though. Fish still looking great.

Speak soon.

Gill flukes!

Hey everyone,

So having my fish checked out now the weather is warming up a bit, I had my pond expert out. On first glance he said all the fish looked really healthy and active.

We caught my big chagoi, hardy any mucous on him, took a couple of scrapes to get enough to scan, he didn’t find anything on him :)

Second fish, caught my ten year old Ogon, nice male who was attempting to breed last year, and we found one gill fluke. Just one. But it was enough to get my hackle up.

I know some fish have parasites on them anyway, :( but suppose at least it is best I know. He didn’t advise me to panic and treat right away. Just to keep an eye on them and see how the next few weeks go. I just hope that it doesn’t go mental.

We’ve booked to go away this year and the last thing I need is to be panicking before we do go.

So, will keep you informed as usual and fingers crossed for my fish.
